DOCUMENTARY FILMS ON LIFE SKILLS/HIV/AIDS

To date a diverse range of materials in the fight against hiv/aids has been produced in africa. so, why produce more? proper identification is the key term. essential for evoking a change in behaviour among young people is their ability to identify with the people, the environment and the circumstances depicted in the material. crucial for the concept of the films is the ‘peer to peer’ approach. everything is filmed in a natural, non studio setting. young people share their experiences, disappointment, fears, etc. with the viewers in order to provoke reactions and counter opinions.

To boost the discussion

The films are designed to boost the discussions after watching, and provide food for thought. The strong belief that young people have to identify their own difficulties and find ways themselves to cope with or to overcome them, lies behind this approach. The potential of young people to do this is too often neglected by elders. Three main topics can be found in any and all of the films produced so far; prevention, impact and care.
